What Are Your Chances Of 20-20 Vision After LASIK Eye Surgery?

Hot Tip! There’s no guarantee of 20/20 vision Many people do achieve 20/20 vision after a LASIK surgery. But a good eye surgeon does not guarantee it.

You might have come across eye centers touting outrageous offers of “20/20 vision or your money back”. The whole concept of 20/20 vision has been ballyhooed immensely when it comes to laser eye surgery. In essence, the value 20/20 refers to a way of measuring visual acuity via the Snellen eye chart - the same old alphabet chart that you might have seen at a nearby eye care center. As an instance of Snellen measurement, people with 20/40 vision can see clearly at 20 feet what people with 20/20 vision can see clearly at 40 feet.

With the latest technological advancements in laser eye surgery, the conventional LASIK procedure has been augmented with superlative techniques like wavefront LASIK, and its add-on, iris registration. With such enhancements there is an even greater chance of 20/20 vision relative to that with conventional LASIK. By wielding wavefront technology there is a great, around 95%, chance of 20/20 vision. However, with the iris registration technology, the possibility of 20/20 vision skyrockets to an overwhelming 99%.

Hot Tip! While you investigate, don’t lose sight of the benefits: for most people a lifetime of bad vision can be cured in 5 minutes. LASIK eye surgery has improved the eyesight of millions of people around the world.

20/20 vision is what you aim for while undergoing any type of refractive surgery - it’s used as a benchmark. However, some people hold a somewhat dissenting opinion about 20/20 vision, as far as laser eye surgery is concerned. The argument put forth is that visual quality matters more than visual acuity. As is evident from a number of cases, laser eye surgeries, for instance LASIK, have potential complications. A patient might experience blurry vision, halos, ghost vision or double vision, glare, and starbursts surrounding light sources at night.

Normal vision is crisp and sharp. But after laser eye surgery, a person might have to deal with debilitating side effects, which typically diminish vision quality. Though the patient might still be able to decipher a 20/20 line on the Snellen chart, the vision might be blurry. Unless the complications subside, eye surgeons’ famous promise of 20/20 vision is merely a myth.

In general, the degree of refractive error and the pupil size are the only criteria while determining the candidature of a patient for laser eye surgery. Most patients are not tested on other grounds, such as contrast sensitivity, glare and depth perception. The data pertinent to such aspects is fairly anecdotal. A comprehensive preoperative test regime is necessary for achieving authentic 20/20 vision (with enhanced vision quality) after laser eye surgery.

Hot Tip! Follow-up is required after a LASIK treatment A good eye surgeon will give you a series of follow-up visits, starting the day after your procedure, and then approximately: · A week later · A month later · 3 months later · 6 months later · 1 year later These visits are to check on the healing, both short-term and long-term, and on the vision improvement and patient satisfaction.

Correct Insertion of Contact Lenses

Hot Tip! 1987 In 1987, quite a bit of contact lenses history was made. In this year, the first disposable contact lenses were available for purchase, as well as the first colored contact that would change the color of your eye.

It is important that you insert your Contact Lenses correctly to maximize
their effectiveness and reduce the chance of damage to your Contact
Lenses or your eyes. If you take your time and follow these simple tips
then you should be able to put your Contact Lenses in easily.

Before you begin to insert your Contact Lenses you need to make sure
that your hands are clean and dry and check that your Contact Lenses
are clean, wet and undamaged. If you have been chopping chillies really you should have put your lenses in first but try to ensure that all chillie juice is off your hands because if its not you will soon find out! Same goes for if your lens is damaged. It will feel like you have a boulder in your eye and that lens should be immediately discarded.

Place one of your Contact Lenses on the tip of your finger of whichever
hand you prefer to use. Then pull down the lower lid of the appropriate
eye with the middle finger of the same hand. You can then use your
other hand to keep the upper lid open wide.

Next you should look directly at the Contact Lens on your finger and place
it directly onto your dark colored cornea in the centre of your eye. This is a bit like poking yourself in the eye but with practise you will get the finger to eye speed just right!

Let go of your eye lid slowly. If you find that you have air bubbles under
the contact lens you can remove them by closing your eye and gently
rolling your eyeball around. Do not rub your eyes.

Hot Tip! Improperly worn contact lenses can cause a loss of oxygen to the cornea, which in turn can lead to blood vessels growing over the front of your eyes, infections, lid changes, allergies, corneal warping, corneal swelling and possibly even blindness.

Trust me once you have done this a few times you will wonder why you were concerned and you will stop taking half an hour to put your lenses in!

Important Reasons to Choose LASIK Eye Surgery

Hot Tip! The laser used is a cool one LASIK uses an excimer laser, which is a cool beam of very tightly focused ultraviolet light. There’s no possibility of heat hurting your eyes.

There are many reasons to choose LASIK eye surgery but If you’re currently sitting on the fence when it comes to deciding whether or not to have LASIK eye surgery performed in order to improve your vision you’re probably not alone. Everyday more and more consumers suffering from various vision impairments are opting to have laser eye surgery performed in order to improve the quality of their eyesight. However, the reasons for every person seeking out this vision correction treatment may differ. Some folks simply don’t want to wear contacts anymore; others may have just gotten fed up with wearing eyeglasses. No matter what your motivation may be, the decision to have eye improvement surgery is no small task and it should be considered carefully.

As mentioned in the previous paragraph, perhaps the number one reason most people undergo vision correction surgery or LASIK as it is commonly referred to, is so they no longer have a valid need to wear corrective lenses or glasses. Let’s face it although LASIK isn’t that cheap (prices do continue to drop) the money spent on replacing contact lenses and ordering the supplies necessary to keep them working properly can add up over your lifetime. LASIK eliminates this cost requirement. Even your glasses will need to be replaced as they wear out or your current eye prescription no longer provides the clarity of vision that many people seek. Also for many folks there is always a time when they have either lost or misplaced their eyeglasses only to never see them (no pun intended) again. These replacement costs can get rather large so the funds saved by having laser eye surgery performed may actually turn out to be a large amount when looked at over a period of time.

Hot Tip! While you investigate, don’t lose sight of the benefits: for most people a lifetime of bad vision can be cured in 5 minutes. LASIK eye surgery has improved the eyesight of millions of people around the world.

For many active or sports minded people LASIK offers them an opportunity to continue to compete in athletic activities without the physical constraints of having to wear contact lenses or eye glasses. Even swimming takes on a whole new level of pleasure as you no longer need any eyewear to allow you to see clearly after you have undergone LASIK surgery. I can personally remember attempting to play baseball and football while growing up with glasses on. This was a major hassle since they constantly fogged up and the perspiration really mucked up my glasses. LASIK not only improves your eyesight it also allows a freedom that many folks who were stuck with using corrective eyewear as they grew up have yet to experience. For many this is one of the main reasons to choose LASIK eye surgery.

Hot Tip! Ask for information on your doctor’s LASIK eye surgery complication rates. If your doctor won’t tell you, find another one.

LASIK also appeals to those individuals that need to indulge their vanity side by allowing them to ditch the glasses they have been wearing in order to see more clearly. With the way human nature is, wearing eyeglasses can leave many people feeling unattractive or self-conscious about the way they look. Laser vision correction surgery provides an immediate boost in the self-confidence of almost everyone that has the surgery performed. Not only can they see better, but now they also feel better about themselves due to no longer having the constraints of needing corrective eyewear.

Hot Tip! Choose a doctor who has done at least 5,000 LASIK or eye laser surgeries. What a doctor doesn’t know can hurt you.

LASIK eye surgery is a procedure that solves many of today’s more common eye impairments and problems. However, it also provides a way to save money by eliminating the normal wear and tear and daily costs associated with other vision correction eyewear such as contacts and glasses. Additionally, LASIK also injects anew sense of confidence in the consumers that undergo the laser eye surgery treatment. If you’re still undecided about having LASIK performed keep in mind the items discussed throughout this article. Doing so may just provide the clarity that you need in order to make the right decision.

Hot Tip! Equipment and procedure to be used. Today there are many difference ‘flavors’ of Lasik.

Colored Contact Lenses

Hot Tip! Do not share contact lenses with your friends. Everyone’s tears are filled with normal bacteria, but transferring these bacteria to someone else’s eyes is not a good idea.

If you like your outfit to be completely color co-ordinated or simply feel like a change then colored contact lenses are a great option. These contact lenses actually alter your natural eye color. You can use contact lenses that have an enhancement tint to them or a stronger color tint.

Contact lenses that have an enhancement tint are made in a color that is slightly darker than your normal eye color. These contact lenses are still see-through but work to emphasise your natural eye color. These types of color contact lenses are especially effective for people with lightly colored eyes as they intensify the color.

Hot Tip! 1992 By the year 1992, disposable tinted contact lenses were available to be purchased from optometrist offices everywhere.

Contact lenses with color tints have stronger, more solid tints that can change your eye color completely. If you are brown-eyed, for example, you could wear amethyst colored contact lenses for a dramatic effect or if you have always wanted to have blue eyes then you can with color contact lenses. Of course, the centres of the contact lenses are always clear to enable normal vision.

Hot Tip! Storage Contact lenses must be stored in approved saline solutions.

Often changing the color of your eyes is done purely for the dramatic effect and as a talking point when out with friends. It can be fun as they look at you trying to decide if its your hair that is different or if you are wearing different makeup. Strangely they notice something is not the same but they cant put their finger on it!!

I have naturally blue eyes but have from time to time had green or brown colored contacts in and have experienced the double take as people who see you regularly cant place the difference!!

Dry Eyes and Contact Lenses Don’t Have to be a Parched Pair

Hot Tip! Let’s start with the basics like many skin conditions drinking lots of water can really help. Puffy and dark circles under your eyes are often an indication of water retention, which you can alleviate by drinking plenty of water (8 glasses a day); this rehydrates you and flushes excess salt from your system which can also lead to puffiness around the eyes.

Contact lens wearers have long suffered from dry eyes, however dry eyes do not have to be a symptom you live with. There are many solutions to erasing dry eyes that allow you to enjoy wearing your contact lenses instead of dreading it.

Hot Tip! Line your eyes with charcoal or dark gray eyeliner.

Dry eyes can occur for a variety of reasons, some which may be attributable to contact wear and others can develop for other reasons. If your dry eyes are a result of contact wear or overwork, you can simply switch lenses or wear your lenses for shorter periods of time. However, if you have dry eye syndrome or an eye disease, your doctor probably has more suggestions for you.

Hot Tip! Diet, which is rich in nutrients helps to remove dark circles around eyes.

First, you should determine why you have dry eyes. Is it environmental factors, related to contact wear, or something else? Once you know what you have you will better be able to treat it.

Artificial tears are often time the best remedy for dry eyes. Artificial tears are simply lubricating drops that will alleviate the scratchiness and dryness. The wonderful thing about artificial tears is you can use them as often as you like and they are easy to carry. If for some reason artificial tears do not work for you, then you probably need something stronger like Restasis drops. These drops help more than artificial tears because they actually stimulate your eye to produce more tears. When your eye has more tears you have less scratchiness and dryness.

Hot Tip! Concealing the dark circles around eyes through make up techniques.

If your dry eye problem is caused by the environment then there are several precautions you can take. First, use a humidifier indoors if the air is drying your eyes out and always wear sunglasses outside to reduce sunlight and debris.

If your dry eye problem still persists, you might need plugs to reduce your tears evaporating so quickly or eye duct surgery. Some optometrists have also found there are supplements available that contain fatty acids that protect against dry eyes.

Hot Tip! Avoiding use of bleach or peels to make the dark circles around eyes light.

Regardless of why you have dry eyes, talk with your optometrist to make sure you are handling the dry eye situation as best as possible.
